England, 1605: A terrorist plot is brewing to assassinate King James 1 and blow Parliament to kingdom come! Or so the King claims. To spread his propaganda, King James 1 hires the world’s most famous playwright, William Shagspeare (after a contemporary spelling of the Bard’s name). As Shag investigates the King’s bizarre tale, he begins to question it, leading him and his actors to a dilemma: lie and pocket the cash, tell the truth and literally risk their necks, or perhaps equivocate–lie and tell the truth at the same time. This high-stakes thriller drops into many of the Bard’s most famous works in an alternate history that resonates today. This is a witty and poignant ensemble piece in which six actors play well over a dozen roles, some of which include snippets of Shakespeare’s other plays-in-progress (one of which becomes the famous Macbeth.)

Cast
A graduate of the local SRHS ArtQuest program, Drew earned his BFA from the North Carolina School of the Arts before cutting his theatrical teeth in New York, where he performed everything from opera to burlesque. He co-founded the Little Flame Theater in NYC and served as its Artistic Director, producing Shakespeare and the classics with a decidedly queer bent. Now back on his home turf, you may have caught a glimpse of him here at Spreckels as Barry Mann in Beautiful:The Carole King Musical, or as The Wolf/Cinderella’s Prince of Into the Woods, or in the ensemble of All is Calm. Other local credits include: Algernon in The Importance of Being Earnest, The Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance, Stephen Kodaly in She Loves Me (6th Street); Freddy Benson in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Giuseppe in The Light in the Piazza, and Captain JW Riser in The Hello Girls (SAL).
Jeff Coté has been a familiar presence on Sonoma County stages for more than 30 years. Most recently, he appeared as Teddy in The Homecoming with Roustabout Professional Theater and directed Head Over Heels at 6th Street Playhouse. His Spreckels Performing Arts Center credits include the Narrator/Mysterious Man in Into the Woods, Harry in Company, and Don in Eureka Day. Jeff is a graduate of Sonoma State University and earned his MFA from Indiana University.
Jereme Anglin is an actor, director, and educator whose career has taken him from the streets of Paris to stages across the United States. He holds an MFA in Acting and has trained at the Sorbonne in Paris, the Moscow Art Theatre at Harvard, and the University of Connecticut. A member of Actors’ Equity Association for more than 20 years, Anglin has performed in numerous productions, served as a fight choreographer, and draws on his second-degree black belt in Aikido to enrich his work in physical theatre. A devoted practitioner of the Suzuki Method, he is committed to creating disciplined, imaginative, and physically dynamic performances.
Representative roles include Arturo Ui in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui at Mercury Theater, Launce in The Two Gentlemen of Verona and Dull in Love’s Labour’s Lost at Seattle Shakespeare Company, Bottom in A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Spreckels Performing Arts Center, Capulet in Romeo & Juliet at 6th Street Playhouse, Ivan in The Seafarer and The Mastiff in The Moors at Main Stage West. He received his BFA from Cornish College of the Arts. He is an actor combatant in the Society of American Fight Directors and has choreographed implied violence in theaters all over Sonoma County.
Natalie Tichenor (she/they) is a Bay Area actor, and a school-based Speech and Language Pathologist. She lives in Richmond with her husband and “professional audience member,” Jamari, and their two very important cats, Eurydice and Ari. Past favorite shows include: Romeo and Juliet (Juliet), Spring Awakening (Ilse), Fiddler on the Roof (Tzeitel), 12 Angry Jurors (Juror #8), and Clybourne Park (Betsy/Lindsay), the latter earning her the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award for Supporting Performance in a Drama.
Zane Walters is excited to return to Spreckels, having last been seen here as Cornelius Hackl in Hello, Dolly!, and previously as Garry / Roger in Noises Off, Arthur de Bourgh in Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley. Other favorite local roles have included Doug Simon in Gutenberg! The Musical (Cinnabar), Guy of Gisbourne in Sherwood (Cinnabar), Victor Prynne in Private Lives (Mercury), Richard Hannay in The 39 Steps (Sonoma Arts Live), Timmy Wilkins in Ham for the Holidays (Main Stage West), The Actor in The Woman in Black (Raven), and Leon Czolgosz in Assassins (Narrow Way Stage / SAL)
