During this 5-week class, students will explore scenes featuring some of Shakespeare’s most well-known ghosts, witches, fairies and supernatural characters that will culminate in a performance of the spookiest scenes that Shakespeare has to offer! Scenes for this class will be pulled from plays such as Macbeth, Hamlet, Richard III, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Tempest. Students will work with each other, bringing the scenes to life on the stage in collaborative ensemble pieces and solo scenes. This class will give theatre students the opportunity to learn about verse, language, theme and character through a selection of Shakespeare’s delightfully ghoulish and haunting works.

About the instructor: Hannah-Jane Dakin holds a Master’s degree in Shakespeare and Education from The Shakespeare Institute through The University of Birmingham and has directed the last two STEP Summer shows, Alice in Wonderland Jr and The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition. Hannah has been teaching Shakespeare to high schoolers for the past two years and in the summers of 2018 and 2019 facilitated outdoor Shakespeare camp. She teaches at Tamalpais High School, Summerfield Waldorf School and is the Production Manager of Mercury Theater in Petaluma.
